Dave Fair's growing
reputation is based
on his regular availability,
steady supply of cigarettes
and uncompromising approach
to the great game of
crickert.
In fading light his
technique appears
Bradmanesque, although
there are those who
describe him as agricultural.
True, over 80 per
cent of his runs are
scored with a slog
sweep to cow corner,
but there are plans
in the future to develop
an off-side shot.
Agricultural he may
be, but this "farmer"
has "harvested"
a rich "crop"
of 450 runs (potatoes)
this season - his
average ruined however
by a mid season string
of ducks (hail storm)
courtesy of biased
and vindictive umpires
(acts of god).
An under-rated bowler,
Fair varies between
unplayable and unreadable
with his right-arm
all-over-the-wicket
line. His fielding
is beyond reproach,
inspiring rap odes
in his underground
support base in the
Brixton massif. Although
unable to tour due
to a phobia of land-based
transport, he is a
willing flier and
is eagerly awaiting
AP's first foray into
Europe. Fair recently
attended a course
at the Australian
Academy of Sledging
and now offers invaluable
and psychologically
scarring commentary
from point, his favoured
fielding position.
