1st XI (154/8) vs Turnham Green (228) Drawn
(Away)
After making our way through the horrendous traffic
on Hanger Lane lane we eventually made it to TG.
Then started the ritual of winning the toss and sticking
the oppo in, this time it was due to the few number
of bowlers we had. I opened the bowling with Nigel
Bagley who soon struck with his 1st over and then
I kept the other end tight with some medium pace
and managed to trap the other opener LBW. Wickets
were falling regularly with our disciplined bowling
but No. 6 bat had other ideas. I made regular bowling
changes while No. 6 bat was trying to swing his bat
at every ball. I then brought my self on to bowl
some spin, removing the No. 6 with my first ball.
Things were calm again but with few chances missed
somehow TG posted a decent score of 228. Bowlers:
Nigel (17-45-3), Tharic (17.2-61-3), Derrick Cordy
(5-18-1), Jatin Rajput (4-29-0) and Ruchika Perera
(11-48-2). Overall, a good performance on the field.
Having
performed well for the past few weeks, we were confident in our batting and
the order was the same. Top 3 bats Ali Wilson (25), Jeremy (Anderson 20) and
Saduna Kapugeekiyana (26) got off to a good start but we got out to part-time
bowlers which exposed our middle order sooner than we expected. Colin Williams
(15) and Mike McGowan (28*) then put on a nice partnership to occupy some overs
to bring us to a useful three figures with some lovely shots. After Colin's
wicket a win was not possible, Ruchika (6) and Rajput (4) tried but failed.
Then came R. McKeown (5*) who did what he does the best, blocking to a draw
when needed. Overall, it was a good draw which still gives us hope of
promotion, it is not going to be easy but any thing is possible if we give
our very best. The only way of doing that is by having a healthy availability.
Next game Hanwell at Home - let's turn it to a WIN guys!!! Also remember
it’s an early start!!!

4th XI (108/6) vs North London (226/7) Drawn
(Home – 7pts)
A hard-earned draw and a much better performance
from the 4th XI than some of the meek performances
in the previous few weeks. North London decided to
bat on another belter of an AP wicket (again thanks
from everyone to Erol) and quickly found themselves
two wickets down after Paul Sullivan removed both
openers courtesy of LBW decisions from their umpire
(this has to be a first in the annals of 1987 League
cricket). The opposition middle-order then knuckled
down, but were made to work hard for their runs thanks
to excellent spells of bowling by Paul and new-boy
Rici. Paul bowled with great stamina and endeavour
whilst Rici produced some good lateral and vertical
movement especially during a spell of 3 overs where
the oppo were hardly able to put bat on ball. The
stubborn North London 3rd wicket partnership was
eventually broken by new boy Ross thanks to a catch
at first slip from your correspondent after which
Paul was brought back for a second spell to chip
away at the rest of the line-up, eventually end up
with jug buying figures of 15/1/62/5. North London
batted on at least 7 or 8 overs too long, perhaps
looking for a final over’s onslaught that we
didn’t allow them.
Losing a player during the tea interval to unavoidable
circumstances meant batting with 10 players and a
promotion to opener for Lokesh who thus far had a
interesting afternoon after straining a hamstring
and then receiving a cut to the face whilst attempting
to catch a steepler. We soon found out that
the North London fielding was pretty sharp, which
Shalim found to his cost when run out from a direct
hit from point. We lost another quick wicket and
Lokesh, starting to be impeded by his hamstring,
had to call for a runner. The resulting innings was
reminiscent of Gordon Greenidge in his limping prime
as good balls were blocked with a dead bat and bad
balls were smashed to boundary. Lokesh was finally
out for 46 just after the start of the last 20 overs.
It was an innings that would have been worth at least
60 without the confusion caused by batting with a
runner. The opposition’s celebrations at his
wicket suggested that they thought that this was
matching winning wicket but Dave Kassam (10*) and
your correspondent (12*) operating in the specialist
roles of last 20 over blockers held out comfortably
for a draw.

1st XI (80/4) vs Brondesbury (79) Won
(Away)
A pleasant day for cricket at AP. AP lost the toss
and so were put into the field. Skipper Nigel Bagley
and Manan Banker set the tempo by bowling good
lengths and lines. An early wicket fell courtesy
of a Bagley wicket-maiden over and Banker just missed
out on a hat-trick. Manan took 2-21 and Bagley
4-31. Replacing Banker was Faaric who showed some
world class bowling by clean bowling the opposition
and replacing N. Bagley was Hallman who showed how
close bowling can be but taking 1-7 was good enough.
Setting up Faaric to take the last wicket by drawing
the batsmen for a shot which nicked and was taken
one handed by Gary Law and finished the innings with
3-11 and on a high note. But over all fielding was
brilliant and tight, limiting the runs needed to
win.
R.
Da Silva (27) and Chris (14) opened and faced an aggressive bowling attack
but Chris put the bad balls away and gave a good reply but being lbw was a
bad way to end his account. Shiraz Mohammed went in and, after being dropped
early, hung around to keep da Silva company. Shiraz (4) was clean bowled and
so Gary stepped up to the plate and did what he does best. Later, Mike Garvey
stepped up and played well but da Silva did fall to a good ball nicked to the
keeper but Hallman stuck around and Garvey hit the winning runs and finished
the game giving AP full points. Many thanks to Steph (showing how handy she
is with the gloves again). And to Garvey coming at such short notice. So up
next Barnet at home.
